Both entry and judging criteria for the Voyager Media Awards are now available on our redesigned website
Other newcomers to the award categories are Best first-person essay or feature, and Best team investigation. In the expanding field of videography, three new categories have been introduced: Best videographer – junior, Best team video – news and Best team video – feature, sponsored by Canon.
A new Environmental/Sustainability Award, sponsored by Meridian Energy, has been introduced for the 2018 awards.
Other categories have been condensed, expanded or dropped as a result of feedback from the industry, and journalists and judges involved with 2017 awards.
Interactive and motion graphics have been included in the Best artwork/graphics category; Best headline becomes Best headline or hook (including social media, blurbs and promos).
Website of the Year, sponsored by Voyager, and Best news website will no longer be solely judged on a live week in March. Instead judges will be asked to give equal weight to achievements made in 2017 including breadth of news coverage, innovation, audience engagement and campaigns.
Now in their 45th year, the awards are run by the Newspaper Publishers’ Association with Voyager Internet as the premier sponsor. Winners will be announced at a gala awards dinner on Friday May 11, 2018, at Cordis, Auckland (formerly the Langham).
