Voyager Media Awards finalists announced

More than 330 finalists in the 2018 Voyager Media awards have been announced today, selected from 2074 entries. The list of finalists in 68 categories can be viewed on www.voyagermediaawards.nz/2018-finalists/.

Sixty-six judges from New Zealand, Australia, UK and Singapore have co-judged in groups of two and three for the past month to select winners and finalists from thousands of pieces of work – news stories, features, columns, reviews, photographs, videos and documentaries, cartoons and graphics, newspapers, magazines and specialist publications. The diverse mix of finalists and their entries demonstrates the extent to which the media are using multiple platforms to present their work.

While digital entries are increasing each year, the traditional community newspapers appear to be achieving high standards. The co-judges have listed 10 finalists in this category and found it tough to select a winner.

Awards director Jane Phare said many of the judges remarked on the high standard of entries and, in many cases, exceptional work. In several cases a joint winner or runner up has been awarded.

Winners will be announced at a gala dinner on Friday May 11, 2018, at Cordis, Auckland (formerly The Langham).

Tickets are $170 (inc gst) and can be ordered online at voyagermediaawards.nz/tickets. The event is expected to sell out so please book tickets promptly.

The awards are run by the Newspaper Publishers’ Association with Voyager Internet as the premier sponsor.
